United Cerebral Palsy of Los Angeles, Ventura & Santa Barbara Counties (UCPLA) is a leading non-profit company in caring for individuals with developmental disabilities.


UCPLA is currently hiring a Lead Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to work at our group homes. As a Lead LVN, you will be responsible for ensuring daily health care needs of the residential clients are met in a timely and appropriate manner per physician orders, Department of Public Health Services regulations, and UCPLA policies and procedures. The Lead LVN will also coordinate direct observation of each client with the LVNs and communication of all health concerns immediately to the Administrator and supervising RNs.


  • Delegates tasks to LVNs and other care staff
  • Schedules, coordinates, and manages all appointments and labs for residents to maintain required medical care on an on-going basis and as needed
  • Schedules, administers, and documents all immunizations, with the oversight of the Registered Nurses (RN) and Administrator
  • Helps evaluate residents’ health in absence of RN
  • Assures accurate and timely implementation of physician orders
  • Determines LVN assignments and directly supervises nursing care
  • Delegates tasks to LVNs and other care staff
  • Provides direct LVN coverage on the floor in either home, as needed, in planned or unplanned circumstances
  • Effectively supervises nursing care being given by subordinates
  • Interacts effectively with members of the nursing department, direct care staff, and other facility staff to keep them informed of clients’ medical needs, precautions to be taken, and observations to report
  • Works with the RNs to review medication administration plan and drug regimen of each client as required by regulations
  • Assures quality of care by adhering to nursing standards of practice
  • Attends mandatory monthly staff meetings
  • Interacts with direct care staff to inform them of clients’ particular medical needs, treatments, and precautions to be taken and provides direction and assistance to provide optimum health care
  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet program and/or business needs


  • Graduate of an approved school of vocational nursing
  • Must be currently licensed by the California State Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians
  • Preferably 3-5 years’ work experience as an LVN
  • Experience in the care and treatment of individuals with developmental disabilities preferred
  • Leadership experience preferred
  • Ability to successfully pass all post offer pre-employment screening requirements, including criminal background check, drug screening, physical exam, and provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States
  • Ability to run, push, pull, bend, squat, kneel, lift, and transfer clients (with assistance of others and mechanical lift)
  • Ability to communicate and work professionally and cooperatively with others
