With 40 programs and service sites spanning several counties, United Cerebral Palsy of Los Angeles, Ventura & Santa Barbara Counties (UCPLA) is the largest nonprofit provider of direct care services for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities in Southern California.

The LVN Clinical Instructor will collaborate with the Registered Nurse (RN) and Administrator to provide training to Direct Care Staff (DCS) in an ICF/DD-N setting, to ensure optimum health care is provided to residents per Title 22 requirements, CDPH requirements, and UCPLA Policies and Procedures. This includes ongoing supervision, monitoring, training and evaluation of DCS in areas of Health Care Skills, Developmental Disabilities, and recording/documentation. Shift work as a staff LVN may be required at times. Works under the supervision of a RN and Administrator.


  • Train, supervise, monitor and evaluate Direct Care Staff (DCS) in the clinical care of residents
  • Provide direction, assistance, support and guidance as needed to provide optimum health care
  • Conduct walking rounds throughout a 5 acre program site to work with DCS 
  • Provide ongoing instruction and monitoring of DCS’ documentation and equipment use
  • Review residents’ Health Care Plans, reports, and record-keeping, and communicate with other departments to ensure proper clinical care is being provided
  • Meet with RN and Administrator on a regular basis to provide updates on DCS skills and to identify areas where additional training is needed
  • Provide health related in-service trainings as requested by Administrator or RN
  • Consult with RN on a daily basis regarding resident updates
  • Communicate all client and/or other safety concerns and changes in client condition immediately to RN and Administrator
  • Perform Shift Nursing per UCPLA’s Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Attend mandatory monthly staff meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet department and/or business needs


  • Graduate of a Board of Vocational Nursing approved school
  • Current California LNV license is required and must be maintained
  • Previous experience in treatment of individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred
  • Schedule flexibility is required; must be available to work some weekends and holidays
