Overview

With 40 programs and service sites spanning several counties, United Cerebral Palsy of Los Angeles, Ventura & Santa Barbara Counties (UCPLA) is the largest nonprofit provider of direct care services for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities in Southern California.

 

As a Learning Resource Center Instructor, you will be responsible for providing instruction to our clients regarding computer technology using adaptive equipment to access the internet and computer software such as painting and gaming programs; creating an environment where clients feel welcomed, invited, and supported in their personal and group exploration on various projects and hands-on skills; assessing client learning and instructional program effectiveness.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Develops lesson plans for individuals with developmental disabilities consistent with Individual Service Plan (ISP) objectives
  • Manages day-to-day classroom activities consistent with ISP objectives
  • Ensures that clients are clean and safe from harm or injury
  • Documents and completes client notes, ensuring they are accurate and consistent with client behavior
  • Implements quality behavior intervention plans
  • Assists clients with community-based activities consistent with ISP objectives

Qualifications

  • Must be18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or GED (or substitute experience)
  • At least one year of experience in care and treatment of individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred
  • Have working knowledge of computers and adaptive technology
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems with computers, adaptive equipment, and software
  • Have an understanding of licensing regulations, client's rights, physical activity, emergency procedures, and disaster plans
  • CPR and First-Aid certified
  • Ability to successfully pass all employee screening requirements, including criminal background check, drug screening, physical exam, and provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States
  • Ability to run, push, pull, bend, squat, kneel, lift, and transfer clients (with assistance / Hoyer Lift)
