Overview

With 40 programs and service sites spanning several counties, United Cerebral Palsy of Los Angeles, Ventura & Santa Barbara Counties (UCPLA) is the largest nonprofit provider of direct care services for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities in Southern California.

 

UCPLA is currently hiring a Pool Aide to support our Aquatics program at our Chatsworth Adult Day Program. As the Pool Aide, you will support the Aquatics Coordinator and assist with daily pool exercises and activities.

Responsibilities

  • Understands daily pool schedules and session times; demonstrates client skills such as transfer mobility and body mechanics
  • Takes lead role in restroom by helping clients in and out of swimwear, including using transfer devices, shower chairs, etc.; toilets and showers clients, and assists in day program restooms 
  • Provides guidance to Direct Support Professionals assigned to the pool to aid clients
  • Maintains accurate and comprehensive client records including observations, progress notes, and semi-annual reports
  • Attends scheduled in-service trainings
  • Understands and is responsible for clients' rights, physical safety, and emergency procedures
  • Follows and reinforces current pool policies and procedures
  • Organizes and maintains pool equipment
  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet department and/or business needs

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Sufficient reading, writing, comprehension, and communication skills in English to perform essential duties and responsibilities
  • Ability to organize workload to ensure completion of all client care and aquatic therapy program needs
  • Preferably 1 to 2 years’ experience or training in the care of individuals with developmental disabilities from a licensed facility
  • Ability to successfully pass all post-offer, pre-employment screening requirements, including criminal background check, drug screening, physical, and provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to communicate and work professionally and cooperatively with others
  • Ability to run, push, pull, bend, squat, kneel, lift, and transfer clients (with assistance of others and mechanical lift)
  • Demonstrates an interest in and concern for people with developmental disabilities and possesses sufficient patience and understanding to work with their special needs
  • Preferably one year of experience as a Pool Aide or demonstrates strong desire to learn job essentials of Pool Aide
