    With 40 programs and service sites spanning several counties, United Cerebral Palsy of Los Angeles, Ventura & Santa Barbara Counties (UCPLA) is the largest nonprofit provider of direct care services for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities in Southern California.


    UCPLA is currently hiring a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) who will be responsible for ensuring that the daily health care needs of our Day Program clients are met in a timely and appropriate manner per physician orders, Community Care Licensing, and UCPLA Policies and Procedures. This includes the direct observation of each client at the start of program and communication of all health concerns immediately to the Program Manager (PM) and Lead LVN.  


    • Interacts with the PM, nursing department, Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), and other facility staff to keep them informed of clients’ medical needs, precautions to be taken, and observations to provide optimum health care
    • Informs PM immediately of all changes in clients’ condition which may require further nursing/medical assessment, and charts accordingly; informs Director of Health Services and Director of Client Services of all significant changes in condition
    • Reviews, prepares, passes and records medications according to UCPLA policies and procedures; reviews documentation of medication dispensing and drug regimen of each client as required by regulations; administers and is accountable for controlled drugs per state regulations and UCPLA policies and procedures; informs residential nurse prior to giving any PRN medications to maintain physician order time frame between doses; ensures medication cabinet is locked at all times according to policy; maintains cleanliness and organization of medication closet
    • Checks Therap to obtain client updates on health and medical status; charts changes in clients’ condition and documents nursing interventions and clients concerns as required
    • Directly observes each client per Title 22 requirements and as scheduled/directed
    • Completes all nursing documentation on a timely basis; completes and submits incident reports as directed; reports and documents any medication or treatment errors as regulations require
    • Maintains and updates medical documents in clients’ files; requests documents as needed
    • Works with residential teams and parents/guardians (when applicable) to obtain physician clearance to return to Day Program as needed
    • Participates in Individual Program Plan (IPP) meetings and emergency drills; attends daily staff meetings
    • Utilizes critical thinking skills and communicates with other departments to ensure quality client care; ensures accurate implementation of physician orders; communicates concerns in a timely manner
    • Assists clients during meal and with restroom support as needed; monitors special diets and assists/trains staff in proper meal and restroom support techniques
    • Understands and follows Universal Precautions and Infection Control procedures; follows all UCPLA’s policies and procedures; uses proper body mechanics and observes all safety precautions to minimize injuries to self, coworkers, and clients
    • Performs other duties as assigned to meet program and/or business needs


    • Graduate of a Board of Vocational Nursing approved school with a current California Licensed Vocational Nurse’s License
    • At least two (2) years of direct patient care as an LVN
    • Valid and current California Driver License
    • Previous experience in the care and treatment of individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality
    • Ability to communicate and work professionally and cooperatively with others
    • Ability to successfully pass all post-offer, pre-employment screening requirements, including criminal background check, drug screening, physical exam, and provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States
    • Ability to run, push, pull, bend, squat, kneel, lift, and transfer clients (with assistance of others and mechanical lift)
