  • Overview

    With 40 programs and service sites spanning several counties, United Cerebral Palsy of Los Angeles, Ventura & Santa Barbara Counties (UCPLA) is the largest nonprofit provider of direct care services for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities in Southern California.

     

    UCPLA is currently hiring an Instructor to be responsible for providing instruction on topics such as Fine arts, computer (Photoshop & editing), 3D printng, physical activity and/or physical therapy, and community integration. Collaborates with specialists to design and implement lessons and instruction. Creates an environment where clients are welcomed, invited, and supported in their personal and group exploraton of the various subjects, projects, and hands-on skills.

     

     

    Responsibilities

    • Develops an individualized curriculum to meet the physical needs and activities for each client attending learning center
    • Provides lesson plans for individuals with developmental disabilities consistent with Individual Service Plan (ISP) objectives
    • Manages day-to-day classroom activities consistent with ISP objectives
    • Assists clients, as necessary, with toileting, physical exercise, eating lunch, any other personal care needs; lifts and transfers clients as needed
    • Assures that clients are clean and safe from harm or injury
    • Maintains accurate and comprehensive client records and notes 
    • Implements quality behavior intervention plans
    • Assists clients with community-based activities consistent with ISP objectives

    Qualifications

    • Must be 18 years of age or older
    • At least one year of experience working with people with developmental disabilities in a service or educational setting
    • High school diploma or equivalent 
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality
    • Ability to communicate and work professionally and cooperatively with others
    • Ability to successfully pass all post offer, pre-emploment screening requirements, including criminal background check, drug screening, physical exam, and provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States
    • Ability to run, push, pull, bend, squat, kneel, lift, and transfer clients (with assistance of others and mechanical lift)
    • CPR and First-Aid certified
