  • Overview

    With 40 programs and service sites spanning several counties, United Cerebral Palsy of Los Angeles, Ventura & Santa Barbara Counties (UCPLA) is the largest nonprofit provider of direct care services for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities in Southern California.

     

    UCPLA is currently hiring a Photography Instructor to be responsible for implementing creative and educational classes for adults with developmental disabilities in the basics of photography. Establishes a safe classroom environment conducive to learning, and client involvement as well as effectively planning and preparing for classes and client success. Prior use and working knowledge of all adaptive equipment.

     

     

    Responsibilities

    • Works closely with Gallery Manager and Studio Coordinator to develop curriculum related to the professional development of participating artists in the studio
    • Creates art-based objectives that incorporate increased dexterity, motor coordination, self-expression, and communication
    • Maintains notes on program and client progress
    • Assesses individuals regarding the need for specialized tools to maximize independence and personal expression
    • Trains staff to utilize alternative supports to optimize independent art-making and personal expression
    • Provides consultation and coordinates development and implementation of adaptive photography tools for other UCPLA locations
    • Provides direct care and support to participating individuals

    Qualifications

    • Master of Fine Arts Degree preferred
    • One year experience working with people with developmental disabilities
    • Mastery of manual and digital photography techniques, relative computer programs and applications, printing, image editing, lighting and composition, portfolio development, and professional exhibition standards
    • Ability to assist with personal care needs of clients including restroom support and feeding
    • Ability to successfully pass all post offer, pre-employment screening requirements, including criminal background check, drug screening, physical exam, and provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality
    • Ability to communicate and work professionally and cooperatively with others
    • Ability to run, push, pull, bend, squat, kneel, lift, and transfer clients (with assistance of others and mechanical lift)
    • Must be 18 years of age or older
