    With 40 programs and service sites spanning several counties, United Cerebral Palsy of Los Angeles, Ventura & Santa Barbara Counties (UCPLA) is the largest nonprofit provider of direct care services for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities in Southern California.


    UCPLA is currently hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) - Floater  to care for individuals with developmental disabilities . As an RN-Floater, you will provide supplemental nursing support to homes in Sylmar, Northridge, and Granada Hills. You will assess client health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, maintain medical records, and administer nursing care to our clients. Working under the supervision of our Director of Client Services, you will have the unique opportunity to build your healthcare career and develop relationships with our clients.


    UCPLA knows that RNs are in high demand. In making your choice about where you will practice your art, consider the following:

    • Our facilities are Intermediate Care Facilities (not SNFs) for the Developmentally Disabled, with both Habilitative (ICF/DD-H) and Nursing (ICF/DD-N) homes. This means the acuity and medical needs of our clients are less than those at a SNF   
    • Our ratios:  Caregiver to client ratio does not exceed 1:5 and is sometimes as high as 1:1
      • Nursing caseload is 15-24
      • Our home sizes are small (6-bed and 15-bed)
    • At our long-term care facilities, you have opportunities to build relationships with people with developmental disabilities and a team of staff committed to service
    • Complex case management will keep you engaged and learning
    • High-acuity care is limited or prohibited by facility regulations
    • Our Intermediate Care Facilities provide minimal wound care per licensing requirements ranging from simple wounds only to a maximum of stage I pressure ulcers


    • Provides supplemental nursing support to group home
    • Be available to provide back-up nursing support for group home locations in the absence of primary RN
    • Quarterly nursing exam of clients
    • Handles emergency nursing care (including clients' assessments after hospital discharge)
    • Writes incident reports when warranted
    • Provides as needed training to LVNs or non-licensed staff
    • Reviews and implements feeding plans
    • Provides complex care management and vital assessments
    • Develops health care plan
    • Supervises LVN clinical responsibilities
    • Accompanies clients to medical appointments when warranted
    • Ensures doctors’ orders are carried out
    • Performs other duties as assigned to meet department and/or business needs


    Case Management Responsibilities Include:

    • Provides complex case management for medically involved and fragile clients
    • Completes required nursing reports which include monthly summary, quarterly reports Health Care Plans (HCPs) and other reports
    • Determines LVN assignment and schedule
    • Participates in Inter-Disciplinary Team (IDT) meetings
    • Works with Pharmacy consultant for Pharmacy audits
    • Audits Medication Administration Records (MAR) bi-monthly
    • Assists with monthly in-service training
    • Oversees and supports monthly cycle medications
    • Schedules doctors’ appointments
    • Prepares client charts for doctor rounds
    • Receives and records doctors’ orders
    • Assists physician on rounds


    • Valid California RN License
    • Minimum of one-year full-time clinical experience as an RN
    • Valid and current California Driver License 
    • Excellent oral and written skills
    • Strong critical thinking skills
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality
    • Ability to communicate and work professionally and cooperatively with others
    • Experience working with adults with disabilities and/or developmental disabilities preferred
    • Ability to successfully pass all post offer, pre-employment screening requirements, including criminal background checks, drug screening, physical exam, and provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States
    • Ability to run, push, pull, bend, squat, kneel, and lift up to fifty (50) pounds
