    With 40 programs and service sites spanning several counties, United Cerebral Palsy of Los Angeles, Ventura & Santa Barbara Counties (UCPLA) is the largest nonprofit provider of direct care services for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities in Southern California.


    UCPLA is hiring a House Cook for two homes on a shared property. The House Cook will be responsible for cooking from a specified menu; required to adhere to all food handling and sanitation guidelines; follow documentation requirements; maintain orderly and clean kitchens; effectively interact with residents, guests, and team members professionally; have good listening skills; and be a team player.


    • Follows the nutritional plans outlined for all clients and adheres to recipes and guidelines for scheduled meals
    • Prepares, cooks, and plates food accurately, maintaining high quality standards
    • Adheres to all food handling and sanitation guidelines
    • Inspects and cleans food preparation areas, such as equipment and work surfaces to ensure safe and sanitary food-handling practices
    • Organizes and cleans kitchens, cookware, cooking utensils, dishes, and silverware
    • Stocks and manages cupboard and refrigerator food/supplies inventory according to meal plans and ensures timely ordering of all regular ingredients and kitchen-related items
    • Ensures food is stored and cooked at correct temperature
    • Stores food in designated containers and storage areas to prevent spoilage
    • Ensures freshness of food and ingredients by checking quality, keeping track of old and new items, and rotating stock
    • Maintains a level of personal conduct in working with clients and staff members which will promote a friendly, comfortable, and safe environment where clients may progress socially, emotionally, and physically
    • Respects and promotes the individual rights of clients, including maintaining the dignity of each person at all times
    • Works closely with Dietary Consultant, Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professionals (QIDPs), and Administrator to review each client’s nutritional plan and ensures proper meal preparation
    • Provides assistance with training of staff related to kitchen protocol and meal preparation, as need arises
    • Performs other duties as assigned to meet program and/or business needs


    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Valid California Class C Driver License
    • Experience working with developmentally disabled individuals preferred
    • Two (2) or more years of professional cooking experience a plus, particularly in a care facility
    • Culinary degree highly desired
    • Ability to interact effectively with all staff and clients in a professional manner
    • Ability to successfully pass all post-offer pre-employment screening requirements, including criminal background check, drug screening, physical exam, and provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States
    • Ability to run, push, pull, bend, squat, kneel, lift, and transfer clients (with assistance of others and mechanical lift)
